MAISON KITSUNÉ: Conrad Clifton Exhibition & Book Launch
Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present “Act Like I’m Not Here”, an exhibition and book launch by Conrad Clifton, a Brooklyn-based photographer, music producer, DJ and educator. Featuring street scenes, portraits and abstract works, the show displays unobserved moments and people, taken for granted in everyday life. The title is a play on words, something a photographer might say to give their subject comfort, but also a statement that says, “I won’t disappear, just because you act like I’m not here”.
Xeara Tiara, the book’s cover image which was awarded Editors’ Pick for Life Framer: Urban Life Photography Competition, is a perfect example of Conrad pursuing effortless strength and beauty in his shots. As a person of color, familiar with being overlooked and underrepresented, he strives to show Black and Brown people in a confident light and to challenge the viewer to experience layers of meaning beneath the surface.
ABOUT CONRAD CLIFTON
Conrad Clifton is a Brooklyn-based film photographer, music producer, DJ and label founder. His images, like his music, focus on themes of self-reflection, empathy and perseverance. For his exhibition at Galerie Kitsuné, Conrad will present a series of signed photographs, as well as a new book.
His work is about storytelling, inspiring the viewer to contemplate the lives of his subjects. Whether it’s a photo of an unhoused individual, or a member of an underrepresented community using fashion as expression, Conrad feels a personal connection and needs to share these images.
